IndianOil has won two prestigious Awards for its Energy Conservation efforts from the Center for High Technology (CHT) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Murli Deora, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas presented the awards to IndianOil director (Refineries) BN Bankapur at the CHT Refinery Technology Meet at Trivandrum. IndianOil's Mathura Refinery bagged the coveted Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Award for energy conservation for the year 2006-07. The awards are based on the annual performance of refineries in the area of Energy Conservation measured in terms of Specific Energy Consumption. Panipat Refinery of IndianOil bagged the Oil & Gas Conservation fortnight (OGCF) Award for 2007. The award constituted by the Center for High Technology under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas is conferred to Refineries on the basis of their performance in the area of Steam Leaks. As a result of various energy conservation measures undertaken at the IndianOil Refineries, the Specific energy consumption in terms of MBTU/BBIVNRGF of IndianOil Refineries in the year 2006-07 is down to 71 against the energy index of 73 in 2005-06 while the industry average has been 74 during 200&07. Various energy optimization and hydrocarbon loss minimising schemes have been implemented at IndianOil refineries which have resulted in fuel savings of around 24,000 MT/year valued at about Rs 39 crore.' Flare gas recovery at Mathura refinery, low-level heat recovery from tempered water system/at Haldia refinery, Coridensate recovery at Guwahati refinery are some of the major schemes implemented during the year. Recently commissioned energy Conservation schemes in IndianOil refineries include installation of air pre-heater in Visbreaker at Mathura Refinery and Hydrogen recovery from CCRU off gas at Gujarat refinery.
