Technical Seminar by Rolls Royce, UK at IndianOil, Gauridad

A three-day 'Maintenance Workshop & Technical seminar on Allen Engine Maintenance' was organized by Western Region Pipelines, Gauridad from 10th to 12th October 2007 along with (he experts from M/s Rolls-Royce, the manufacturer of Allen engines. The importance of the seminar assumes from the fact that more than 70 Allen make engines with capacities varying1 from 2000 BHP to 3500 BHP are in operation in IndianOil (Pipelines Division) at different locations across the country as prime mover of pumps for cross-country operation. Mr. K.G.Gupta, Executive Director (Western Region) inaugurated the seminar at (he training center at Western Region Pipelines, Gauridad. Mr. P Bhattachaya - DGM (Maintenance), Mr. Anish Aggarwal - DGM (Technical), Mr. J Pradhan - DGM (HR) and Mr. S R Agarwal - DGM (Operations) and senior officials from Pipelines Division were also present on the occasion. Mr. Ashish Puri, General Manager, Technical and Mr. Sunil Mathur, General Manager,’ Spares from M/s Rolls-Royce India along with Mr. David Ayres, Chief Design Engineer and Mr. Philip Bernard Mann, Sr. Technical Services Manager, Rolls-Royce, U.K. along with other officials from Rolls-Royce India Limited also graced the occasion. Mr. S.R.Agarwal, DGM (Operations) welcomed the participants and the delegates at Western region Pipelines. In his address he emphasised the need for holding such seminars at regular intervals for updating the maintenance practices. He also advised all the participants to make full utilization of the seminar and clarify all the doubts regarding various maintenance practices. Mr. K.G.Gupta, ED (WKPL) in his address described Mechanical Maintenance as one of the core competence areas of IndianOil Pipelines. He commented -Our engines are getting older and the demand for throughput is increasing. Therefore the need of the hour is to adopt and keep updating the best maintenance practices at all locations in IndianOil Pipelines. He also emphasized the need of proper technical analysis of all failures towards reducing the breakdowns. Team foom M/s Rolls-Royce, India and M/s Rolls-Royce, U.K made detailed presentation on. Maintenance problems being faced along with failure analysis, new checks during maintenance etc. The analysis of breakdowns during one year since last seminar held in July 2006 was discussed threadbare. Feedbacks from individual locations upon implementation of the last year's Technical Seminar recommendations with regard to maintenance practices were also shared. The experts of M/s Rolls-Royce also nicely explained new technological advancement in the field of engine manufacturing and spares. The seminar provided an excellent platform for exchange of views, ideas, and clarifications on general and specific maintenance aspects. 26 officers of various grades attended the three-day seminar from Pipeline Head Office and other Regions. Mr. R C Kashyap, GM (Technical) also joined the seminar on 12th October 2007 and emphasized the importance of maintenance.
