In its first year of marketing (1960-61), the company's volume sates was a meagre 0.038 million tonnes which is approximately five per cent of industry sale worth Rs 0.8 crore. Mr. Saran added- set-up with the mandate of achieving self-sufficiency in refining and marketing operations for a nascent nation set on the path of economic growth and prosperity, the journey of IndianOil in the last five decades is truly remarkable. Today, IndianOil is the country's largest commercial enterprise and India's No. 1 company in 'Fortune Global 500' listing of the world's largest corporate. IndianOil is at 105th position amongst world's corporate and is also the 18th largest petroleum company in the world. He further mentioned that, IndianOil feeds the nation's energy needs, across the length and breadth of the country irrespective of terrain or location- IndianOil's footprint is everywhere, even in the remote inaccessible interiors.
