ONGC GAIL IndianOil bag OISD Awards for 2008-09

Murli Deora, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas presented the “Oil Industry Safety Awards” for the year 2008-09 to the Chief Executives of winning Oil & Gas organizations in a ceremony organised by Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD) in New Delhi. Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) bagged maximum seven awards, while IndianOil, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and GAIL (India) Limited won 4 awards each. Out of the 12 categories, ONGC and MRPL were eligible for eight categories and the duo walked away with as many as seven awards. ONGC and MRPL teams led by Mr. R. S. Sharma, CMD, ONGC and Chairman, MRPL received the awards. From ONGC and MRPL, Mr. U. K. Basu, Managing Director, MRPL; Mr. A. K. Hazarika, Director (Onshore) & In-Charge HSE; Dr. A. K. Balyan, Director (HR) In-charge Business Development; Mr. U. N. Bose, Director (Technical & Field Services) and D. K. Sarraf, Director (Finance), ONGC were also present along with their winning team members. Speaking on the occasion, Petroleum Minister Deora emphasized that 'Safety First' should be the motto of all corporates and these awards are a recognition of the efforts of the organisations /individuals and indicative that the Oil and Gas industry is in safe hands'. Expressing satisfaction on receiving these awards, CMD ONGC complimented the winning teams from ONGC and MRPL for their efforts in maintaining exemplary safety standards at workplaces even when aiming for increase in productivity. On behalf of IndianOil, Chairman Mr. Sarthak Behuria received four prestigious OISD awards. IndianOil's Marketing Division received the award for the 'Most Safe Oil Marketing Company (OMC)' in the last three years, an award category instituted for the first time by OISD. In the Refinery category, Mathura Refinery bagged the first prize whilst Haldia Refinery secured the third position. The Haldia-Barauni Crude Oil Pipeline was awarded the first prize in the 'Cross Country Pipelines-Crude Oil' category. Meanwhile, Mr. B. C. Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL (India) limited accepted the award for GAIL'S Vijaipur LPG plant which got first rank under Other Processing Plant category. GAIL also won first rank for its HVJ pipeline in Natural Gas, LPG and Cross Country Pipelines and second rank for its Pata Processing plant under Other Processing Plant categories.
