Refinery adds another plume to its beret

Guwahati Refinery became IndianOil’s third refinery and the first from the North-east to qualify for the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Excellence Award, a Guwahati Refinery press release said. Prof Yoshio Tanaka and Kinjiro Nakano, JIPM assessors, carried out final audit for TPM Excellence Award at Guwahati Refinery recently, the first level assessment having been carried out in July 2009. The JIPM assessors appreciated the efforts made by the refinery in TPM implementation and declared it as qualified for the TPM Excellence Award. The JIPM assessors, Prof Tanaka and Nakano, during their visit, reviewed the TPM Activity Report Chapter-wise for all eight pillars and appreciated the efforts done in TPM implementation, particularly in the areas of presentation of chapter-wise activity report, housekeeping in the shop floors inside the refinery. The country’s first public sector refinery which has been in operation for over four decades, Guwahati Refinery has been continuously strategizing to reduce operating costs, improve productivity and minimize losses. TPM helps to develop a cohesive team with close involvement with plants and machineries and teaches to know the equipment intimately, its behavioral pattern and its potential to perform in an excellent manner. The implementation of TPM at Guwahati Refinery has shown tremendous improvement in productivity, cost reduction and most importantly, improvement in work culture.
