The IndianOil eight-day festival of music 'Servo Swarangal' was launched here on Friday. Speaking at the inaugural function, K.K. Acharya, Managing Director, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, said IndianOil was a leader among public sector companies when it came to supporting culture and heritage. The company is known for its corporate social responsibility programmes since the seventies, he said. Apart from promoting arts, IndianOil had made an invaluable contribution to the upkeep of several Indian monuments, including the Qutub Minar and the Konark Sun Temple, Mr. Acharya said. He hoped the company would soon progress into the top 100 Fortune-500 companies from its present rank of 135. Nageswaran, General Manager, IndianOil (Southern Region), said music occupied an integral place in life in India. "In other countries, music may be looked at as a form of entertainment, but in India we even have gods for music and dance," he said. 'Servo Swarangal' will feature concerts every evening till November 30. Concerts will be held at Vani Mahal on Saturday and Sunday and at Rani Seethai Hall for the rest of the days. Artistes, including Nithyasree Mahadevan, Gayathri Venkataraghavan and O.S. Arun, perform.
