IndianOil will set up bio-diesel oil refinery

IndianOil on Friday announced to set up a bio-diesel oil refinery in Orissa. Mr B.B. Choudhury, IndianOil, eastern zone chief, announced this at the Bankers' Committee meeting on rising of energy plantation and bio-diesel production here. Mr. Choudhury said IndianOil had plans to support all necessary infrastructure for sustainable and qualitative production of bio-diesel. He said IndianOil would set up the proposed bio-fuel processing unit in a centrally located area in the state and urged the Orissa government to help supply high yielding non-edible jatropha or karanja seeds of at least 2 lakh metric tonnes annually to make the unit viable. Orissa chief secretary announced that a bio-diesel park would be set up at Deras, on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar. Assuring that steps would be taken to provide required 2 lakh tonnes of jatropa, karanja and pan-gal seeds to the proposed IndianOil unit, he said a task force would be set up under science and technology department to initiate the process. He said that a team comprising bankers and Orissa scientists would visit Chhattisgarh to gather experience on bio-diesel production. The government has already formulated a bio-diesel policy to encourage the farmers to raise jatropa and karanja.
