Panipat Refinery for the Lowest Specific Energy Consumption (MBN), by

In order to promote excellence and innovation in the Indian Refining Industry, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas recognized outstanding contributions. India is fast emerging as a ‘Refining Hub’, and improvements in technology, operations and innovations, will go a long way in strengthening the sector. At the ongoing 20th Refinery Technology Meet (RTM) being held at Gandhinagar (Gujarat), the Ministry presented the Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Awards for Refinery Energy Performance, Oil & Gas Conservation (OGCF) Awards , CO2 Emission Awards and Innovation Awards. The awards were presented by Mr. Ajay Sawhney, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in the presence of Mr. Sandeep Poundrik, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr. Sanjiv Singh, Director (Refineries), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and Mr. Brajesh Kumar, ED, CHT.

Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Award for Energy Performance (2014-15) for the Lowest Specific Energy Consumption (MBN), was presented to IndianOil’s Mathura Refinery (Group-1); IndianOil’s Panipat Refinery (Group-2) and for RIL’s SEZ Refinery (Group-3). The Best Improvement in Specific Energy Consumption (MBN) over previous year was bagged by HMEL’s Bhatinda Refinery.

Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight Award (2015)
The award winning refineries for Lowest Steam Leak was given to IndianOil’s Bongaigaon Refinery (Group-1); BORL’s Bina Refinery (Group-2); and EOL’s Vadinar’ Refinery (Group-3), while HPCL’s Vizag refinery was the winner for Best Performance in Steam Leak Over Previous Year.

Carbon dioxide Emission Awards (2014-15)
The refineries recognised for best performance in Carbon dioxide emission are IndianOil’s Panipat Refinery and Haldia Refinery, under category of refineries with natural gas.

Innovation Awards for the year (2014-15)
This Award, instituted to promote innovative scientific endeavour, was awarded to a team of B. Ravikumar, DM (Research) IndianOIl, K.R.D.P. Chand, SM (Process), CPCL, Sarvesh Kumar, SRM, IndianOIl, Alok Sharma, CRM, IndianOIl, Brijesh Kumar, GM(RT), IndianOIl, for innovation related to Co-processing of Biomass derived oils in Diesel Hydrotreating unit of existing Petroleum Refineries to produce High Quality Diesel (Best Indigenous Technology Team).

Shaikh Naymuddin, Process Manager, IndianOIl, S.G. Venkatesh, CTSM, IndianOIl, A.K. Gupta, DGM, IndianOIl, Ashish Nag, ED, IndianOIl won for Innovative way of Revamping Propylene Separation Unit of Panipat Refinery (Best Innovation in Refineries Team); and for the Technology for Simultaneous Production of US grade Gasoline and high purity Benzene from unprocessed C6 heart cut of FCC Gasoline the award was bagged by CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. R&D Division won for Hi-Gee Unit for Process Intensification of Distillation/ Absorption process under the category of Best innovation in R&D.
