Laying of Foundation Stones of GAs under 9th Round of CGD and Launch of 10th Round of CGD Bidding
New Delhi   22-Nov-2018

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today laid the foundation stones for City Gas Distribution projects in 63 Geographical Areas across India, heralding the availability of convenient and environment-friendly natural gas for residents under the 9th Round of CGD bidding.

IndianOil, the largest commercial enterprise in India with Fortune ‘Global 500’ ranking of 137, has been actively involved in fulfilling the energy requirement of our nation for nearly six decades. Keeping in sync with the present requirements of greener and cheaper fuels and considering the socio-economic factors, IndianOil has also ventured into Natural Gas.

IndianOil with its two Joint Venture Companies (JVCs) is presently authorised for laying, building, operating and expanding City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks in 11 Geographical Areas (GAs). Nine of the GAs are authorised to IOAGPL (a joint venture with Adani Gas Ltd.), and two of the GAs are authorised to Green Gas Ltd. (GGL, a joint venture with GAIL).

In the 9th Round of CGD bidding, IndianOil participated individually and also with its two JVCs and received authorisation for 18 GAs (IndianOil - 7, IOAGPL -9 and GGL -2).

The Hon’ble Prime Minister has made a commitment in COP21 Paris Convention in December 2015 that by 2030, India would reduce carbon emission by 33% of 2005 levels. Natural gas, as domestic kitchen fuel, as fuel for transport sector as well as a fuel for industries and commercial units, can play a significant role in reducing carbon emission.

The current share of Natural Gas in India’s energy basket is approximately 6.2 % as against 23.4 % globally. The Government, under the leadership of Hon'ble Narendra Modi Ji, has accorded priority to shift towards a gas-based economy with Natural Gas as the next-generation, cheaper and less polluting fuel. Creation of a robust infrastructure is a significant component in this initiative.

As per the commitment made by IndianOil and its JVCs in the GAs authorised for development of City or Local City Gas Distribution Network under the 9th CGD Bidding Round, more than 36 lakh domestic PNG connections and 1,416 CNG stations would be installed largely during a period of eight years up to September, 2026, in addition to approximately 20,000 inch-km of steel pipeline. Further, the entities would be authorised to supply natural gas to industrial and commercial units in their respective GAs as per the limits provided in the CGD Authorisation Regulations.
